WHY SHOULD I UPDATE MY FIRMWARE?
The updates from Sony on the a7 III and a7RIII models offer the following new features:
- Assign autofocus tracking sensitivity to a custom key
- Improves performance and stability of the camera
- Better reproduction of colour gradation on RAW files - applies if you are using Sony's 'Imaging Edge' software
- More stable exposure when using flash in an environment with flickering lights
- Better handling of continuously shot images as a group
- Improved performance of Focus Areas on A Mount lenses when using the LA-EA3 mount adaptor
- Resolves a previously known issue where the touch panel became unresponsive
- The update also optimises both cameras to be compatible with two of Sony's latest G Master lenses, the 400mm f/2.8 GM Telephoto lens, and the 24mm f/1.4 GM.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER WHILE UPDATING FIRMWARE
The first thing to say is that you should, of course, read the installation instructions, which are available on all of the links below.
We recommend the following:
- Make sure you are installing the firmware to your specific model
- Ensure your camera battery is fully charged
- Remove your memory card to prevent your PC trying to read / download images
- Make sure your computer does not go to sleep during this time
Points 2 and 4 are particularly important, as an interrupted download could potentially ruin your camera!
