The Fujifilm X half Compact Digital Camera Charcoal is a modern reinterpretation of compact half film photography with an understated finish that brings Fujifilm's contemporary styling to a design rooted in analogue inspiration. This edition shares the same compact form and vertical-first layout as the other models in the range offering a fixed-lens digital camera that feels familiar yet somehow entirely new.
It is equipped with a 1-inch sensor and a fixed 32mm full-frame equivalent f/2.8 lens. The X half is designed for simple intuitive shooting and its native vertical format is ideal for portraits storytelling and social-first image sharing. A unique second format is available with a 2-in-1 image mode which provides a creative outlet by letting users capture two images side-by-side using a physical film-wind lever which is a direct nod to half-frame film cameras.
Along with 13 classic Film Simulations such as PROVIA Velvia and ETERNA are three new filter options for your images including Light Leak Expired Film and Halation for new creative possibilities.
The camera’s user interface is designed around vertical touch gestures rather than traditional buttons or dials allowing for full camera control via swipes and taps. There’s also a secondary LCD strip for instant access to filters and simulations without needing to go into camera menus at all.
This charcoal colour adds a low-profile almost industrial look to the X half which is perfect for travel lifestyle and candid street photography. Thanks to an incredibly compact and lightweight 240g build this Fujifilm camera offers all the same creative functionality in a finish that feels authentic minimal and timeless.

Before entering the digital market Fujifilm had a rich history of producing film stock and film cameras including the Fujica Half from the 1960s and 1970s. These models featured compact bodies fixed lenses and manual controls and were favoured by photographers drawn to the half-frame format for travel street and everyday photography in JPEG only images.
However the X half isn’t simply a revival of these film models it’s a completely new compact digital concept with a new body design a unique image aesthetic and an updated user experience. Its exterior is inspired by classic rangefinder cameras with an off-centre optical viewfinder (OVF) and refined styling throughout.
It weighs just 240g including the battery and SD card so the Fujifilm X half is light enough to be part of your everyday carry yet capable enough to capture unique moments as they happen.
The native 3:4 vertical shooting format is reflected in both the LCD and sensor layout making the camera ideal for phone-first and social content. A standout feature is the ability to merge two vertical images side-by-side in a single frame using a film-inspired shooting process:
Both frames are automatically stitched into one file complete with a dividing line which is perfect for storytelling diptychs and creative compositions.
Inside is a 1-inch sensor paired with a Super EBC 10.8mm f/2.8 fixed lens which provides a 32mm full-frame equivalent field of view. This wide-but-natural angle is identical to that found in Fujifilm QuickSnap single-use film cameras which is now reimagined with digital image files you can edit and share instantly.
The X half includes 13 of Fujifilm’s classic Film Simulations such as PROVIA Velvia REALA ACE ETERNA and Classic Chrome for distinctive colours and tonality straight out of camera. These are joined by three new analogue-inspired filters with Light Leak Expired Film and Halation each bringing a different vintage feel to your images.
You can also customise your look by using Grain Effect and a new Date Stamp function which can add subtle character to everyday results.
A newly designed vertically oriented LCD debuts Fujifilm’s gesture-based interface which has been designed for intuitive smartphone-style control. Swipe up down left or right to access pairing modes and camera menus which are all optimised for vertical use. Other gestures include flicking and double tap to exit Film Camera Mode.
A secondary LCD strip to the left of the main screen provides quick access to Film Simulations and filters without needing to enter the menu system bringing another completely unique function to this compact camera.
Fujifilm cameras are renowned for their tactile dial-led handling and retro-inspired aesthetics. The X half continues this tradition in a compact and authentic design which is ready to become part of your everyday life.
Key design elements include the virtual Frame Advance Lever vertical touchscreen optical viewfinder and an exposure compensation dial which are all carefully positioned to support an enjoyable vertical shooting experience.
For a more authentic film-like workflow you can activate Film Camera Mode which limits the number of available frames to 36 54 or 72 exposures. Shooting is then restricted to the OVF only and your images appear as a film strip ready to be ‘developed”’ in the X half App. Winding up the frame advance lever on the camera’s top plate after each shot enables the next shutter release. After taking the selected number of shots users can transfer the image data to the new dedicated "X half app” to digitally develop view edit and share the photos taken. Contact sheets are also saved after digital development.
An optional Contact Sheet mode showcases your captured images as viewable grid letting you relive your photo story frame by frame.
The X half App extends creative control allowing you to wirelessly transfer images combine 2-in-1 shots and organise albums or galleries. It also connects directly to Fujifilm’s instax Link series of portable printers enabling fast wireless photo printing on demand.
Compatible instax printers include:
Browse our range of compact photo printers to find your ideal compatible printer for the X half App.
Note: Images captured in Film Camera Mode must first be transferred to the app before printing to instax Link printers.
While not intended as a hybrid or dedicated video camera the Fujifilm X half does offer a range of Full HD video options across aspect ratios including 3:2 3:4 and 1:1 for casual movie experiments. You can record at up to 48fps with high-speed recording available in all three formats. Bitrates vary from 10Mbps to 50Mbps depending on your frame rate and quality settings.
Video can be captured in the camera’s native vertical orientation or in square and 2-in-1 formats bringing a unique approach to motion capture. It’s ideal for short-form content behind-the-scenes reels or quick stories that match the camera’s aesthetic.
A Stills/Movie switch on the top plate enables video capture with the same Film Simulations and image characteristics as stills and there’s also a built-in LED which can be used to illuminate subjects when needed.
Power is supplied by the included NP-W126S battery which delivers up to 880 shots when using the OVF which is ideal for extended everyday use with just one or two additional spare batteries.
