Designed with strict Leica quality control the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm f/1.7 ASPH Lens for micro four thirds cameras is a compact ultra-wide prime lens with 1:2 macro capabilities. With an equivalent focal width of 18mm (full frame format) and a bright f/1.7 aperture combined with close minimum focus of under 10cm you can capture amazing landscape and macro shots with a single lens.
The 9mm f/1.7 ASPH Lens excels at shooting dynamic stills as well as videos with close-up and exaggerated perspectives all made possible from a high quality optical design. Capture beautiful fine details throughout the frame with minimal focus breathing and micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure changes. The lens is also designed with creators in mind featuring well controlled focus breathing and focus throw adjustment which is found in video-capable micro four thirds lenses.
The lens weighs just 130g with a compact 55mm filter thread and when combined with a camera such as the Panasonic Lumix GH6 the total weight is around 950g. This creates a highly portable set-up which is capable of capturing ultra-wide landscapes as well as close-up 1:2 macro shots.
With a 100° diagonal angle of view the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm f/1.7 ASPH Lens is the widest prime in the entire Panasonic lens range aside from the 8mm Lumix G Fish-eye lens. This presents the perfect lens for wide angle subjects such as landscapes interiors and architecture as well as a close-up subjects with 1:2 magnification (half-macro). The FOV (field of view) is far wider than the Lumix G Macro 30mm to complement this existing macro lens rather than replacing it. You can capture wider backgrounds with a large subject for close-ups drawing on high quality Leica glass to achieve excellent quality throughout the image.
As well as being a proficient photography lens the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 9mm f/1.7 is an excellent option for hybrid shooters and video-centric creators. You can set the coordination between focus ring operation and the amount of focus movement with supported cameras choosing between linear and non-linear focusing. This allows you to adjust focus ring acceleration and rotation between 90 and 1080 degrees with camera such as the DC-GH6.
Focus breathing is also well controlled with minimal discernible focus shift when pulling focus from near to far. Micro-step aperture control also aids videographers with smooth exposure changes cementing this lens as a great choice for hybrid creators.
