Sigma has released the 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens as one of a trio of compact lightweight primes for full frame Sony E-mount cameras. This classic slightly wide 35mm standard focal width is popular due to versatile and natural looking results ideal for all day shooting of any number of subjects. For example subjects might include street photography environmental portraits weddings and travel all of which are supported by the fast f/2 aperture.
The 35mm f/2 Contemporary lens offers consistent high resolving power right across the frame and supports Sony’s advanced AF features. Focus is quick and near silent and the lens also features a quiet aperture ring lending itself admirably to video as well as stills photography.
An all-metal construction with precision cut aluminium parts not only give the lens barrel a sleek stylish finish but also provides superb durability for unhindered use.
The Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary brings a high level of optical performance even at the maximum aperture of f/2. Axial chromatic aberration is corrected with the inclusion of SLD glass. The placement of high-refractive index elements provides effective correction of various types of aberration while keeping the amount of glass used to a minimum. This allowed Sigma to keep the lens compact and lightweight at just 325g and 70mm × 65.4mm an ideal size on a mirrorless camera body.
Advanced production technology is implemented at SIGMA's production site in Japan. Optics include three high-precision glass-moulded aspherical lenses which provide correction of spherical aberration and field curvature for well controlled results. The lens design also provides a very good correction of sagittal coma aberration making it suitable for capturing fine details required for night sky photography.
